Applying as a physicist? Your resume is parsed by an ATS before a person reads it. These are the terms those filters screen for, and the templates that survive the parsing.
Keywords ATS filters look for
From real physicist postings — include the ones you genuinely have, worded as the posting words them:

- Data analysis
- Python/MATLAB
- Instrumentation

Recommended templates
- Academic CV — Publication-first layout with sections for research, teaching, and awards. Single-column; parses cleanly but adds non-standard headings some ATS may not recognise.
- Technical Compact — Dense single-column layout with grouped technical skills. ATS-safe; the grouping helps keyword matching.
- Classic ATS — Single-column ATS-safe structure with bold section headers. Tested across Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Taleo, BambooHR.
Three rules for a physicist resume
- Lead with outcomes, not duties. Every experience bullet should carry a number: scale, speed, money or people.
- Mirror the posting's wording. If the JD says “Modelling & simulation”, your resume should say it the same way — ATS matching is literal.
- Stay single-column for portals. Save the designer layouts for humans; upload the ATS-safe version to job sites.
